The Important Stuff
Okay, a few housekeeping things before we get to the fun stuff! Please give these a quick read so we're all on the same page.
-
We have a 48-hour cancellation policy, and sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours notice are billed in full. Please make sure the whole family knows this one!
We are open on ALL HOLIDAYS aside from winter and March break. If you plan on being away, you must let us know. If you're sick, we may be able to move your session online - but no guarantees!
All cancellations must go through booking@themathguru.ca - not through your tutor. Our admin team are your point people for all things related to scheduling!
-
If you're booked weekly, we're expecting you every week! Life happens, so you get three cancellations before your spot can be forfeited to another family who needs it. Holidays don't count as strikes :)
-
Anything to do with booking, cancelling, adding or changing a session goes through booking@themathguru.ca, no matter who your tutor is. Your tutor can't make scheduling changes - email us and we'll take care of it!
In general, you can get a hold of us:
Monday - Thursday: 1:00pm-8:00pm
Friday: 1:00pm-4:00pm
Saturday + Sunday: 10:00am-4:00pmJust keep in mind that hours may vary during holidays and school breaks, but we’ll always update our email signature so you know what to expect!
-
Private tutoring is $85/hour, payable by e-transfer or credit card. We invoice at the beginning of each month for the previous month's sessions.
E-transfers: payments@themathguru.ca
Accounting questions: accounting@themathguru.ca -

Everything you need to know to have a great session!
You're booked, excited, and ready to go! Now here's a little peek at how sessions work, so you can walk in (or log on) feeling ready.
-
We want you to feel better RIGHT away, which is why your session is built around whatever you’re working on right now! This week's homework, a unit that isn't clicking, a test on Friday, or something from last year that never quite made sense. Your tutor will ask what you would like to tackle and take it from there!
That's exactly why bringing your own material makes such a huge difference! Your notes, your homework, your marked tests: they show your tutor what your teacher is actually asking for and how your class is being graded.
We've got textbooks and resources here too, and your tutor can absolutely pull extra practice for you, but nothing beats working through your real course content together.
It is also always good and highly recommended to let your tutor know about upcoming tests, assignments or exams.
And if you turn up not sure what to work on? No stress, it happens all the time! Your tutor will find the gaps. It just means a bit of your hour goes into figuring out where to start rather than diving in, but that’s totally okay!
-
If you have any of the following, bring them!
Class notes and current homework
Textbook or course package, if you have one
Any tests or quizzes that have come back marked (PLEASE bring us these - they are SO helpful!)
Calculator, pencil, paper, anything you love to use while learning + doing problems!
-
Glad you asked!
All of our time together goes into teaching, practicing, and building confidence in the material, so we don't do formal assessments or write evaluations for schools.
We also don't assign formal homework between sessions. Your tutor is always happy to suggest some additional practice if you want it, but the best thing you can do is try ALL the homework you are assigned in class at your school - and then bring it to your tutor so they can help unstick anything that made you feel stuck!

Where we are: We're located just north of Yonge and Eglinton at 2541a Yonge Street (right across from the Lululemon and above Walking on a Cloud).
Parking + Transit: We don't have parking at the studio, and street parking around Yonge and Eglinton can be a bit of an adventure, so give yourself a few extra minutes if you're driving. There are green P lots nearby, street parking on Sherwood, and we're a short walk from Eglinton station if transit is easier!
How to get in: Buzz #102 and come up to the 2nd floor. Your tutor will come out to meet you and get you settled in your spot.
We're a shoe-free studio, so socks are a very good idea:)
One more thing: in-studio sessions can occasionally move online. We always try to give you a heads up, and every reminder email includes a Zoom link just in case!
-
Your session reminder email has your Zoom link in it. Click it a few minutes early so you can check your sound and video. First time on Zoom? You'll be prompted to install the software, then you'll go straight through to your tutor.
A few things that make online sessions feel just as good as being here:
A quiet spot at a table, ideally not a bed or a couch
Paper and pencil within reach, because there will be writing
Camera on, so your tutor can see the work as it happens
A device that's charged or plugged in
Photos or PDF scans of anything on paper, ready to go before you log on
If there's something on paper you want to work through (a worksheet, a marked test, a page from the textbook), take a photo or scan it before your session starts and send it to your tutor in the Zoom chat in the first minute or two!
One last thing, promise:
-
So glad you asked - this part is really important!
Literally anything to do with booking, cancelling, adding or changing a session goes through booking@themathguru.ca, no matter who your tutor is - email us and we’ll take care of it, we’re your point people!
