Our Virtual Code of Conduct

Hello! Welcome to the fam! Before we get started, we wanted to provide a copy of our video conferencing policies for all of our virtual tutoring sessions. These policies are intended to help ensure everyone involved has a safe, productive and enjoyable experience! We ask that you please review these policies, discuss them with your parent or child, and let us know whether you have any questions. We welcome any comments or questions you have and we look forward to continuing to work together to ensure that everyone stays safe and healthy! Please see our virtual guidelines below!

The Math Guru: Virtual Tutoring Guidelines

From time to time a tutoring session may take place online here at TMG and while participating in virtual tutoring is a great way to connect, it is important for you to follow these rules and guidelines!

1. Check your equipment. Make sure the device you are using for the virtual meeting is operational and that you have a working camera and microphone. Your camera is required to be on during your entire tutoring session. This will ensure the maximum effectiveness of your tutoring session.

2. Turn off notifications. Silence (or even better turn off) notifications on your devices. The notifications are again distracting for you and your tutor and should be turned off so that you are able to get the most out of each session.

3. Let others in your household know. It is always good to warn members of your household you are participating in a video conference that may allow others to see or hear what they are saying.

4. Find a quiet place. Your tutor can see and hear everything that is happening around you, which can be distracting for both of you, and people around you (in person or virtually) can hear and see you and your tutor. We ask that you try to find a quiet and private place where you can work uninterrupted. If you are not able to find a quiet and private place, try to use headphones and, in the event that someone is around during a tutoring session (either in person or virtually), let the visitor and your tutor know that they can possibly be seen and heard by someone else.

5. Follow the same rules that you would follow if you were being tutored in person. Listen to your tutor. Take turns to speak. Be kind and considerate. Treat your tutor the same during virtual tutoring as you would in person.

6. Take it slow. Remote learning may be a new experience for you and your tutor, so please be patient. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your tutor or anyone at Math Guru and we will be happy to help you get started.

7. Recording and posting. Recording, photographing or screenshotting a tutoring session or posting sound, video or images (such as screenshots) of tutors, your peers or others from the session is not allowed, whether group-based or one-on-one. In the event you wish to do so, you must first get the permission of the tutor, and any other person who might be recorded in the sound clip, video or image, and the person’s permission can be withdrawn at any time.

8. Sharing invites. Sharing virtual tutoring invites, links, passwords with anyone who is not supposed to be in that session is not allowed.

9. Have fun. We have had amazing feedback about our virtual tutoring sessions. It is a great opportunity to connect with your favourite tutor in the comfort of your own home and we are hopeful that you continue to get out of this as much as you would from in-person sessions. That said, we can’t wait to all meet in person again - soon!
