WHAT MAKES HIM AN AWESOME TUTOR
I believe my relatability is what makes me a great tutor! I was once also a student trying to learn math and science. As much as I loved both subjects, I always felt as though they did not equally love me back, and I used to struggle sometimes.
However, over time, I managed to figure out those difficult and complex concepts. I believe any student can do it too, and now I am also able to provide my perspectives to help them!
FUN FACTS
Life Goal: My life goal is to leave anywhere I am better than how it was when I found it! That also includes giving back to the communities that raised and continue to surround me.
Words to Live By: I only just recently learned this, but it truly stuck with me: "I am capable of achieving anything, as long as I am allowed to take breaks."
Favourite Mathematical Weapon: I absolutely love my Casio fx-85ES Plus. I've had it since high school! Special shoutout to Desmos, though you can't use it for exams or anything, I love using it to visualise graphs.
GET TO KNOW KIERAN
Education: Recent graduate from the University of Toronto Mississauga, specialising in Biotechnology and minoring in Chemistry and Sociology.
Fave Tech device: Truthfully, I cannot live without my phone. It simply does so much for us that it is hard to go without. These days, though, I try super hard to be mindful of my screentime!
Fave Book: My brain chemistry was altered after reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.
Fave Song: Hard to pick! It also heavily depends on my mood, but one that I can always listen to on repeat is Good Days by SZA.
Fave Outfit: You will always find me in some kind of sweater and baggy trousers.
Fave TV Show: I love Avatar: The Last Airbender and iCarly.
Fave Movie: I am not one to rewatch movies after the first time, but I have many favourites! One of them that is super impactful was Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. During more casual watches, I enjoy indulging in anything horror.
When you're not crunching numbers: You would probably find me doing some kind of craft. Over the years, I have tried my hand at crocheting, knitting, linocutting, and sewing. I also love to bake/cook new recipes!
What's the best thing about you? I always find it hard talking about myself, so I surveyed some of the people in my life, and here are the results:
"I think you tend to go above and beyond for your friends when you really care about them" - Best friend 1 from high school.
"Kieran's really good at teaching you the rules of a board game and then also proceeding to destroy everyone else at it" - Best friend from university and gym buddy.
"I think you are honest, witty, and creative" - Best friend 2 from high school.
"Probably that you're really committed to your friends, as we can always count on you" - Close friend from university.
I think these should be enough for you to draw your own conclusions:)
NERD ALERT!
I struggle to define at what point something is considered "nerdy", but some of what I am really into are board games and plants! I love how different games require different levels of strategy and different ways to approach winning. Moreover, whenever I get a new plant, I love researching more about each species and how they grow.
I currently have 40+ board games and 25+ plants, but I am hoping to expand both collections as time goes on. I am also super interested in fermentation, and am currently keeping a ginger bug that helps me make my own sodas!
