what makes her an awesome tutor

I understand that sometimes math and science just doesn’t make sense, and that learning can be extra hard when your teacher just doesn’t seem enthusiastic about the lesson. So I always start with the basics to make sure we’re both on the same page, give you lots of choice about how you want to learn so you can stay engaged, and show you just how much fun I’m having tutoring you so you can have fun learning! Together we’ll build up your confidence in tackling those “hard” questions and develop your critical thinking skills to be a math and science wiz!

fun facts

Life Goal: To get to do what I love with whom I love! And to get a career where I get to talk about cool science things all day.

Words to Live By: "Anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve."

Favourite Mathematical Weapon:  The handy dandy calculator! It’s great for plugging in complicated equations or to double check your mental math. I remember when a teacher told me we’d never have calculators in our pockets to help us solve math questions (and now we have them on our phones!), so it’s cool to see how this tool has become so important in our lives!

Education:  I have a Bachelor of Science in Genetics and a Master of Science in Biology from Western University. During my masters, my research focused on the genetics and evolution of fruit flies! I started my PhD in Ecology and Evolution at the University of Toronto but am taking a break from that to focus on teaching!

Fave Tech device:  Probably my phone...

Fave Book: I like too many, but here are a few (considering that Harry Potter is in a section of it’s own): The Book Thief (Markus Zusak), Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom (Leigh Bardugo), The Hate U Give (Angie Thomas), One Day (David Nicholls), & The Time Traveller’s Wife (Audrey Niffenegger).

Fave Song: Depends on the day, but I’ll always dance to Sexyback by Justin Timberlake.

Fave Outfit: My beige long dress; it’s so comfy and has effortless style, paired with sandals.

Fave TV Show: The Office (I just finished it!) & Gilmour Girls

Fave Movie: The Prestige (lots of magic and directed by Christopher Nolan, need I say more?) & 17 Again (the amount of nerd humor in this movie is amazing!).

When you're not crunching numbers: I’m probably hanging out in my best friend’s bookstore, playing tourist with my boyfriend, playing board games with friends, or doing science outreach with kids.

What's the best thing about you? I have a pretty contagious smile and can give a good pep talk to help you out of your rut.

nerd alert!

I’m a self-proclaimed Harry Potter expert. I’m also a real life scientist and love making friends with insects, so you’ll often find me trying to identify whatever insect just flew or crawled past you.
