what makes her an awesome tutor
Everyone has their own specific base of knowledge understanding, even (and this is especially important to remember and acknowledge) within the same grade or age group, and I try never to assume what that baseline is and never judge a student for where that is. I always ask to make sure my students understand the terms I'm using or concepts I'm trying to draw on, and if they don't then I just go back until we find something they know (because you know more than you think you do, I promise!). Learning works best if you start somewhere you are familiar with, no matter where that is and how many steps it takes to get to what you're trying to learn now. Nobody learns to swim just by being thrown straight into the deep end!
Life Goal: To run a successful blog/online community that somehow blends my yarn crafting and science & tech passions
Words to Live By: Every moment is a gift, that's why it is called the present ;)
Favourite Mathematical Weapon: Draw a picture! Humans are very visual creatures and having a picture/graph/diagram can help so much with understanding and solving a problem.
get to know DANA
Education: I got my Honours BSc in Physics from McMaster University in June 2018, with *almost* a minor in earth science and geography.
Fave Tech device: My PC (and its graphics card ^.^)
Fave Book: The Book Thief (by Markus Zusak) is my all-time favourite but there are so many others I love as well
Fave Song: There are too many and they change all the time! Don't make me choose! (I'm currently listening to Hozier's new album a lot, but I'm sure that'll change in a week)
Fave Outfit: Leggings, fuzzy socks, tank top, and a loose sweater or cardigan.
Fave TV Show: Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, Bob’s Burgers, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Parks and Recreation, One Day at a Time
Fave Movie: Bon Cop, Bad Cop
When you're not crunching numbers: I’m knitting or crocheting, watching netflix/youtube, playing video games, reading, or playing with my cats! Usually more than one of these at a time, and all most likely while drinking tea (or coffee).
What's the best thing about you? The best thing about me is my laugh! I laugh easily and loudly and I find (too) many things amusing. And I'm always partial to a good pun (see my Words to Live by)!
I like to do cryptic crosswords, play Dungeons and Dragons, and if there are rocks in my vicinity I will likely try to examine and identify them.
