It’s almost THAT time of the year again! You know – when you gotta wake up nice and early in the morning? When your evenings are consumed by mountains of homework? And when weekends become THE most blessed thing you can imagine? You don’t seem too excited… Or maybe you are… BUT ANYWAY, the school year is starting and here are 5 foods that can help you boost your memory and concentration to help you with all that learning!
Coffee and Tea
Coffee and various types of tea are TOTALLY awesome drinks for your brain’s health! But how so? Well, that’s because they often contain caffeine! Now, before you go running off saying that we told you to have all the espressos and energy drinks you want, remember this: WE NEVER SAID THAT! Caffeine acts as a central nervous system stimulant. Once it hits your brain it will increase your alertness, enhance your thought processing skills! Though they should be used in moderation, caffeinated coffee and teas are great for boosting your memory and concentration!
Just about EVERYONE is a fan of the smell of fish! Right? Well, maybe not! But did you know that fatty fish like salmon, trout and tuna are also AMAZING for your brain health? Well you should, seeing as how we’re mentioning it in this blog about foods that are good for your brain health! Much like avocados, fish can be very rich in fatty acids, but this time it’s the Omega-3 fatty acids you get! Not only do Omega-3 fatty acids help with your memory skills, they’re also great for your heart and prevent heart disease! SHOW SOME LOVE FOR FISH! <3
Dark chocolate is also one of those awesome foods that will help you get concentrated on learning! It can be a bit of an acquired taste due to its lower sugar content and much bitter taste, but that just makes it HEALTHIER! Sorry if that’s not as fun… High cocoa content chocolate contains antioxidants. Antioxidants help improve your blood flow and by consequence, will support blood flow to your brain. This will help with your memory as well as your concentration. BUT IT DOESN’T STOP THERE! Cocoa also acts as a stimulant much like caffeine, so you’ll also get an energy boost there too!
That’s right, these little green fruits (NOT VEGETABLES) are super foods and super good for your memory and brain health! Avocados are rich in Omega-9 fatty acids! Now what does that mean? Fats are INCREDIBLY important for your body and for your health. Every type of fat has a different role and acts different on your body. Naturally, your body can’t produce ALL the fats it needs, so you’ll get them from the foods you eat! Avocados are super high in oleic acid which is known for boosting cognition! Now if only avocados stayed ripe for more than 15 minutes before turning until absolutely inedible mush…
Nuts and Seeds
From peanuts to almonds to cashews and walnuts to sunflower to pumpkin to chia to sesame and more – it’s NUTS how many different kinds there are (see what we did there…)! Nuts and seeds all have their own benefits and influence on positive brain health. For example, walnuts are high in Omega-3 fatty acids, much like fish while pumpkin seeds contain tryptophan – an amino acid that helps produce serotonin! But how will serotonin benefit your concentration? SIMPLE – serotonin is this freaking awesome chemical and neurotransmitter that makes you feel happier. Don’t you think learning will be a WHOLE lot easier when you’re in an awesome mood?!
