what makes him an awesome tutor

The only thing more satisfying than finding the answer to a difficult problem is finally understanding how to find the answer in the first place. And since everyone approaches problem solving in a different way, I’ll work with students to find their strengths and give them the tools they need, guiding them through different strategies to quickly find an approach that works for them.

fun facts

Life Goal: To make the world a better place, tackling problems big and small, even if it means helping just one person at a time.

Words to Live By: “I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.” - Neil deGrasse Tyson

Favourite Mathematical Weapon:  Take it slow, and work it out step by step. Every large, complicated problem can be broken into smaller, simpler problems.

get to know mike

Education: Bachelor of Computing with a minor in Theatre, Certificate of Communications and Public Relations

Fave Tech device: For better or worse, I’m basically glued to my iPhone.

Fave Book: Neuromancer, by William Gibson. He predicted the internet and its ramifications more than two decades before Facebook became popular. Oddly, he didn’t predict iPhones.

Fave Song: I like nothing more than putting some Daft Punk on loop and getting to work.

Fave Outfit: On most days, you’ll find me wearing a hoodie.

Fave TV Show: Star Trek. All of it. Even the bad episodes.

Fave Movie: Spirited Away. It’s basically Alice in Wonderland but better.

When you're not crunching numbers: I spend most of my free time playing games and making things up, either around a table with pencils and dice or on a stage in front of an audience.

What's the best thing about you? I’m infinitely curious. This makes me a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, as I know a little bit about a lot of things. I’m always looking for new people and opportunities to learn from.

nerd alert!

I own about a dozen sets of polyhedral dice, and I make generous use of them playing Dungeons & Dragons.
