what makes her an awesome tutor
I am a math and physics enthusiast, and I believe that enthusiasm is contagious. I am really curious, I like to understand how things work and where they come from, which often extends to my students. I do not aim for students to know a concept, but rather understand it.With all of this in mind I am basically a big kid at heart and at its core seems to be why I am able to get through to the students without them realizing they are doing "work".
Life Goal: To become irreplaceable.
Words to Live By: “What I cannot create, I do not understand” - Richard P. Feynman
Favourite Mathematical Weapon: My fingers? I mean, I’m pretty sure that thanks to them we have ‘digits’!...I also love mental math!
get to know ana sofia
Education: Working towards a BSc in Medical Physics with a minor in Mathematics.
Fave Tech device: The Microwave Oven (Physics making s’mores!).
Fave Book: “Surely you’re joking, Mr. Feynman!” by Richard Feynman.
Fave Band: I think I like albums better, but my all time fave would be Keane...although I’m super into the Black Keys right now. (Vanessa’s band is pretty cool too...just saying!)
Fave Song: All time fave “Somewhere only we know” by Keane, but right now I can’t stop listening to “Do I Wanna Know” by the Arctic Monkeys.
Fave Outfit: The ‘little black dress’, it is always a life saver!
Fave TV Show: Ahhh I’d have to give a top 3 for this one: Gilmore Girls, Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Wife...I also like Suits...ok, top 4 then.
Fave Movie: ZOMBIELANDDDDDD!!
When you're not crunching numbers: ...I’m secretly Wonder Woman. But then during the day, I’m the president of the Ryerson Science Society. I used to figure skate, play guitar, drums and alto sax. I also sing (badly) in the rain, and have long walks to the bus stop and my next lecture hall (which I try to optimize by using the Pythagorean Theorem). Lastly, according to Fall Out Boy: “I only think in the form of crunching numbers”.
What's the best thing about you? Apparently I’m witty...very witty, and super outgoing too. I’m incredibly loyal. Also, on a scale of one to ten, I heard I am always at eleven, and I guess that is mostly because I am super passionate about the things that I do, and I tend to take them as far as I can. Lastly, I am a food enthusiast, so I bake when I’m bored, and people tend to enjoy my boredom.
I genuinely enjoy student politics...like a lot! I like to do mental math (like ALL the time), i.e. I can calculate the day of the week you were born, square any number between 40-60 and any 2 digit number that ends in 5, etc. I am a science enthusiast. I LOVE science jokes. I HATE the system of imperial units. I only read science books and autobiographies of scientists. I like to celebrate my birthday on Pi day. Lastly, I google pretty much everything I don’t know (My mom calls me “Ms. Google’s”).
